Physician AI

Collaborating with UXD team

Meet Epic's Clinician AI Assistant!

AI is critical in getting clinicians up to speed on their patient, and its integration into EMRs are arguably some of the highest impact use cases thus far in the industry. View my involvement in future vision/early stage design of Epic's clinician assistant, and check out their website below for visuals available of the results.

Problem

Problem
Within our software, AI's usage is an important need within the next decade to improve clinician efficiency and accuracy.
Goals
We needed to determine the best way to surface AI to clinicians such that it is transparent, intuitive, and trusted.

Research & Design

Brainstorming
Our group of UXDs brainstormed to determine the best ways to show AI to clinicians - answering questions about how and when AI should show, how much transparency into rationale on recommendations should be given, and determining the best ways to gain and keep physician trust.
Prototyping
Additionally, our team brainstormed a number of ways to show AI in our software, including a visual representation of this AI-augmented assistant. This representation should not just be intelligent and trustable, but also represent the brand of Epic at its heart. The results of this brainstorm was used to be shared with stakeholders and evangelized among colleagues.
